It will be simpler to say to you what they have in common of RSLogix 500 and RSLogix 5000. They are very much different things. There are some similarities and a lot of differences. RSLogix500 is the programming software of Ladder logic for the family of SLC-500 and Micrologix of PLCs. RSLogix5000 is the programming software for the newer PLCs Logix family. Dependent on the version it might contain function block diagrams, structured text, and ladder logic languages.
RSLogix 500 is actually ladder only and utilizes register according to memory addressing. RSLogix 5000 is having ladder plus STL etc. and utilizes tag according to memory addressing. It supposes RSLogix 5000 is nearer to Siemens, but they are very dissimilar in operator interface and approach. In Siemens ladder is the weakest, in RSLogix 5000 ladder is the strongest language.
Rslogix is definitely more powerful and flexible but then again it’s a lot of newer to - and its planned for a totally different family of PLCs. Unless you operate some place that ONLY does huge difficult jobs - 75% of the work you do in AB most likely drops in the RSlogix 500 range of products from the micros up although the family of SLC.
That is right, but in common the CompactLogix PLC charges less price than the SLC500 PLC. If there is not already a great installed base of SLCs then RSLogix5000 and ControlLogix or CompactLogix is still the way to go.
They don't do something new in SLCs aside from supporting their existing SLCs. They perform use the Micrologix 1400 and 1100 for the rare brick work, but there is now a RSLogix500 version of which does only the product of ML line for user who perform only small brick material. But currently even the line of CompactLogix is having bricks.
