Reset Operating State PLC I/O Interface

The PIO enters the state of Reset when power is supplied or after a reset (software, hardware, or watchdog timer reset). In the lead entering the operating state of Reset, the PIO will fill the system; and conversion to the operating state of power-up. During this stage the Red Led will be lit and the Amber LEDs will be in an undefined condition.

Power-Up Operating State
The PIO enters the operating state of Power-Up from the state of Reset once the operating system and hardware have been initialized. The firmware of PIO will be initialized and all hardware performed of self-tests in the operating state of Power-Up. If the self-test be unsuccessful then the firmware of PIO will re-enter the operating state of Reset. While in the operating state of Power-Up, no field communications functions of I/O data or communications functions of DeltaV RS-485 will be executed. The PIO will initialize the field interface hardware and the serial ports. The PIO will conversion to the un-configured operating state upon successful completion. During this stage the Red Led will be lit and Amber LEDs will be in an undefined condition.

Un-configured Operating State
The operating state of Un-configured is came in after power-up and the power-up self-tests successful completion. The firmware of PIO will load an empty configuration, or reload the previous stored configuration from system memory of non-volatile. The Red Error Led will turn off and the RIO Configuration and Amber Run Mode LEDs will be lit upon successful completion. If no design is present, the PIO will be in mode run but no remote communications of I/O will be happening.

Active Operating State
The operating state of Active is the state in which the PIO has active communications with the I/O bus field on one side, and DeltaV PSIC on the other side. The Amber Run mode LED should be lit in this phase. If the LED of Amber RIO is on solid, this specifies that you have a good communications and harmonizing configuration with the field.

On the side of DeltaV, for connections of RS-485, if both ports of PSIC are communicating, then the two Amber LEDs port will be on solid. If there are communication faults with the PSIC port, the matching port LED will blink on a half second on, half second off basis. If the Mynah VIM is utilized for the communications, then the top LED Port (no 1) will be solid ON if there is a connection of TCP between the PIO and the Controller. The bottom LED port (2) will flash on each Modbus/TCP when message received by the PIO. This phase is the standard operating state for the PIO. While in this phase, the PIO can be put in mode of Program by the user. The Amber LED Run mode will be unlit in Program mode. All of the communications field will be active; nevertheless the DeltaV PSIC will no longer be contacting the information field. This mode is utilized to send a new configuration field into the PIO. After accepting a new download configuration from DeltaV PSIC, the PIO conversions into the operating state of Power-up.

If the PIO senses a failure of communication with a rack, the Amber LED RIO will initiate blinking during normal operating state. In this phase, all outputs in the rack will go to their state of fail-safe. The outputs come back to previous valve when communications are reinstated. If the PIO senses a failure of communication with either ports of DeltaV PSIC, all racks will be pressured into their state of fail-safe. The outputs go back to previous valve when communications are reinstated.
