What Is the Difference between SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and PMS (Power Management System)

SCADA and PMS is related components. Both have the understanding and workings of the different anyway. The following is an explanation of the difference between SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) and PMS (Power Management System) in view of the terms of its meaning and how it works.

SCADA and PMS

Definition of SCADA and PMS

The first the difference between SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) and PMS (Power Management System) is about the meaning. SCADA or Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition are a control system of industry-based computer that is used to control a process such as the process industry, the infrastructure and process facilities.

SCADA also encountered in oil and gas plant, power lines and some of the applications that are used to monitor the production area. SCADA consisting of human machine interface, remote internal unit that can connect multiple sensors, computer-based surveillance system to collect data, communications infrastructure connected remote terminal unit with control systems and programmable logic controllers.

While PMS is a system or power management system monitors and electric metering remotely monitored continuously and simultaneously. PMS can also be interpreted as a combination of electrical equipment hardware and software monitoring system. The combination of the two made an electric monitoring system that smart, inexpensive and accurate.
For communication PMS can use WIFI or LAN technology. PMS is a feature of some electrical equipment such as copiers, computers, printers and others that could shut down the power when not active.

The Working Principle of SCADA and PMS

The first the difference between SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) and PMS (Power Management System) is about the working principle of SCADA and PMS. SCADA is an instrument restorer disorder that can be done immediately or deal with the problem directly from a distance. SCADA works by collecting data obtained from the RTU or remote terminal units in MTU or master terminal unit and execute commands on the system is running.

In accordance with the principle of the work, there are two important elements that play a role in SCADA ie machines that are monitored and their human network interface to the system via a machine control sensor.

While working principal PMS is each unit to be maintained electrical systems installed metering devices with certain specifications in accordance with the functions and data management needs. Second, power meters have been installed on the unit will be read and converted by the device monitoring unit. Third, Device Monitoring Unit (DMU) already installed will be directly and simultaneously send data to a server PMS. Fourth is PMS duty to manage, store and manage all orders and input from all devices.

That's the difference between SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) and PMS (Power Management System) when seen from the definition and how it works. Both have different meanings to different ways of working.
