What is SCADA and How Does It Work?

What is SCADA and how does it work? - The development of technology in today's world has greatly contributed to the development of the modern industry system. Such development can be seen in the form of the technology used to produce the goods dedicated to meet the customers' need and expand the market share.

Therefore, it is no longer questioned about the use of SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) in some private and public-sector industries such as oil and gas, transportation, food and beverage, water and waste water and so on. This industrial control system works well in all enterprises because this industrial technology falls into some simple configuration that can be integrated with the large and complex projects.

So, what is SCADA and how does it work?

what is SCADA and how does it work

Definition of SCADA
Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) is kind of industrial control system that works to control the industrial process using the computer-based system with the help of coded signals over the communication channel.

For example, the use of SCADA in industrial company allows this system to control what the PLCs controlled like in the industry that functions PLC to control the flow of cooling water and with the SCADA, the operator can change the set points and enable to display the status of equipment controlled by the PLCs or RTUs in the monitor. It is because the SCADA system uses the hardware and software components so that operator will install the SCADA system in the computer to monitor all the performance of equipments in industrial company.

When the performance of the equipments goes wrong, the SCADA will activate the alarm as signal, so that the inappropriate working equipments will be easily detected. The definition of SCADA above represents one of the question dealing with "what is SCADA and how does it work?"

How this program works
SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) works with the help of the multiple software and hardware and it allows to monitor and process data sent by the working equipments, control the machines like pumps, motors and so on and record the events in the form of log file.

SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) works when the information from the sensors is sent to the PLC or to the RTU and then the information is latter sent to the SCADA with the help of installed software in order to be displayed in the monitor. When the data has been displayed, the operators can reduce or improve the manufacturing process.

The use of SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) can be considered as the most effective and efficient one, since it can help to analyze and monitor the work of the equipment in industrial company without consuming time and much money.

Some of the industry that apply SCADA are power plant, system of traffic lights and so on. Having read this, it is expected that the question "what is SCADA and how does it work?" will no longer linger in mind.
