Five Common Types of Level Sensing Technology and How to Apply Properly

Today many industrial processes raw materials in the form of a liquid, such as breweries, dairies, factories that produce products containing liquids require a device capable of measuring the depth of fluid stored in various types of tanks. The device for the detection of liquid depth of the work based on signals from the level sensor to control the production process or to provide feedback to set point data input. Level sensors will work on a range of values and determine the right amount of liquid at a predetermined location, while at the placement location are point-level sensors to indicate whether the level of liquid above or below the sensing point.
In a further development, there are currently five sensing method most widely used to measure the depth of the liquid level that considering physical and application variables as follows:

Level Sensing Technology

1. Float switches

This method is effective, simple and efficient in its use in the field of level sensing to determine the depth of the liquid. Float switch has several major parts such as magnets in the float and magnetic reed switch contained in permanent housing. How it works include the control of the movement of the float, rise in liquid level, causing the switch to change the position of being on or off. This technology is relatively simple and does not require special calibration switch.
One of the critically important point to note is the selection control switch. Users should consider setting up a physical container or tank, mounting positions are available and whether access is provided to the inside of the tank. This will facilitate the future operational system.

2. Optical level switches

The most widely used device for sensing point level measurement of liquids or solids suspended because the work is based on changes in the transmission of infrared light emitted from an infrared diode (LED) and is controlled by a switch. The system works starts from the way an optical level sensor in the design is resistant to shock and vibration and other mechanical influences will incorporate some form of logic circuits and electronics such as anti-spark technology to generate performance data readout proper fluid level. Solids in suspension affect the results of the reading system.

3. Cable-suspended switches

The system works with a relatively simple way. Device control is installed in large tanks or containers, then cable-end float switch will work by changing the levels of fluid, which causes the switch angle varies, it can be in a position on or off. Position switch will cause the ball bearings at the surface will move from one end to the other end sealed chamber so that the micro switch will work on positions open / close contact.

4. Cable-suspended pressure/depth sensors

Wired sensor applications in the field of hydrostatic influenced by the submersible pressure sensors to measure the level or depth of liquid in the tank in / large or water in the reservoir. Positioning of pressure sensor / sensor cable-suspended depth and compatible use of chemicals is essential to support the performance of the system. Sensors must be calibrated for each application to be used.
This sensor device is able to provide a measurement of the depth / level through the analog output signal that is suitable for installation either small or large tanks, as well as in rivers and reservoirs.

5. Fixed pressure/depth sensors

How it works is similar to the sensor pressure / cable-suspended sensor depth, only difference lies in the installation of the pressure sensor remains permanently on the side walls or the bottom of the tank is small or large. This sensor has the ability to provide output analog data on the depth of the liquid and resistant to surface movements and agitation. The disadvantage is the constant pressure sensor is less affected by suspended solids.

Conclusion

Liquid level depth measurement method with level sensing technology requires appropriate sensor. In this industry suppliers will usually offer a variety of mounting options sensors and switches are also different according to the needs. As a user no need to understand the advantages of each device so that it can efficiently use.
